Hi Vlad. Glad to hear your point of view. I have heard of people mentioning things similar to Pulse Width Modulation and Frame Rate Control, but I haven't researched in that direction, since it hasn't affected me. I've been given a brand new Macbook recently, and I've used Macs many years ago too, but never had any issues with its display (the only thing I dislike about the display is the glassy monitor that's like a mirror). Even with monitors of other brands, I have not had issues. When the eyes are severely strained, we tend to become a lot more sensitive to various things. It's like hitting somebody's hand won't bother them, but hitting a fractured hand will cause them excruciating pain. In my case, using plastic spectacle lenses used to cause a lot more strain than glass lenses. But now that I've almost recovered, I feel that kind of strain with plastic lenses much lesser. Before reaching conclusions, it's important to first cross-verify under various conditions. For example, whether you feel the same amount of strain with those monitors even after you've got a proper 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, and when you haven't tensed your facial and eye muscles. Apart from this, there's unfortunately nothing more I can offer to say about this. I'm saddened that even you had to stop working to rest. A colleague of mine also took leave to rest, yesterday. A classmate told me a few months ago that even he had to take leave just to rest his eyes. People tend to be under pressure to put their health at risk to please a boss. There are just too many people ending up like this because nobody told them about the seriousness of the matter. Children too. Companies, governments and well, basically everyone needs to talk more about these matters and inform our family and friends about getting proper rest and a full night's sleep every night. I'm glad you are getting the rest you need, and glad you are identifying what causes more strain, and avoiding it. You deserve a speedy recovery, and I hope it happens soon.
