Since I have myopia, when I use a lower power lens or even if I don't wear spectacles, I can still see clearly when I move closer to the screen. Your astigmatism makes it a bit more complicated, since you won't see clearly even with a low prescription or no spectacles, so I don't know if it will cause more strain to your eyes. These you'd need to experiment and find out while simultaneously getting advice from a good doctor. Some myopic people have said "print pushing" worked for them, by using plus powered lenses. I've never tried it since my eye muscles were already aching. I don't know if any similar technique exists for astigmatism. You could ask on online forums and see if any youngsters were able to reverse their astigmatism, but take care not to get cheated, and always consult your doctor before trying anything new. I also saw that there are some eye exercises to restore the shape of the cornea. Perhaps your doctor could advise you on whether it's useful. I was able to manage daily tasks by strictly restricting my screen use to 4 hours per day initially, and then as I recovered I managed 6 hours. This was not continuous use, and these numbers do not matter. What matters is the duration your eyes feel comfortable with. I installed software to remind me to take rest, and as much as I could, I closed my eyes after every 20 minutes and waited for 5 minutes or more for the strain to reduce. Most of what I could mention is already mentioned in my writings. When trying experiments, remember that the eyes are a lot more resilient to strain when you get proper sleep. So any measurements done should also consider the amount of sleep obtained the previous night. I'd like to hear back from you many months later if you make significant discoveries. Meanwhile, please advise more people to save their eyes from strain. If possible, also consider creating opportunities that help affected people find jobs that are less strenuous on their eyes. Recently I've noticed milk, chicken and eggs from certain sources giving me strange issues with vision, kidneys and breathing. It might also help to verify that food contaminants aren't causing issues. I don't have enough info to elaborate yet.
