For chronic strain (I can't assess if your strain is chronic or acute. I'm assuming it is), simply keeping the eyes closed the entire day isn't sufficient. When you start working again, the strain will quickly return. For acute strain, long durations of keeping the eyes closed or simply avoiding computer use itself, does help a little, but same as chronic strain, you'll be back to strained state when you start working again. What does help, is getting natural, restful sleep. Whether it's a short nap or uninterrupted sleep at night, make sure you never skip or skimp on sleep. It will take many weeks or months of getting proper sleep, for your eye muscles to heal. Meanwhile, make sure your food is well cooked and nutritious, and do read through the other comments and read the entire article again. You'll notice details you may have missed earlier. Medium can also read out the article for you, so you can just listen to it. Taking a week off is worth it if you can ensure you get uninterrupted 8 hours sleep every night and also avoid computer/smartphone use as much as possible. It'll give much needed timely relief. It's not enough time to recover fully though, so you can't return to your usual routine even after a week's break. I believe you may need to reduce your workload and ensure proper sleep for a few years at least. Again, I'm mentioning this with insufficient info on how severe your strain is, so you may recover faster if it isn't very severe. Do consider delegating part of your work to freelancers, and using friends or family to help out with computer use when you need to rest. Tyler, I sincerely hope you recover quickly. Please advise others too about getting proper rest and sleep. We all know there are many others suffering (even children), and unable to figure out how to recover.
